Rakeback
Not all of you may know this, but on most limits you pay a rake on every pot you participate in. That’s right. We’re not talking about the pots you win. You pay rake whenever you actively take part in a pot, that is, whenever you put money into it, regardless whether you win or lose.
On most limits, the rake is not more than a few cents (although on high limits it can be as much as $3- as it’s usually 5% of the pot with a cap of $3) on a hand, but if you’re an active player and you add up all the hands you play during the course of a month, you’ll be amazed to find how much rake you really pay.
By signing up to a rakeback deal (such as the ones featured on this site) you’ll secure a setup which gives you a certain percentage of the rake you generate back, for as long as you play, whenever you play.
Taking the above said into consideration, one may rightfully think that nobody would ever play a single hand without rakeback once they found out about the value it delivered. For most online poker players this is true. It’s amazing however how few people presently know about rakeback, even though it has been around for a good few years now.
Why do poker rooms offer such an almost unbelievably advantageous deal to their players? The reason is simple: the competition for active poker players has reached an all-time peak and poker rooms which do not have the player liquidity they’d like to see, use rakeback to lure traffic to their tables. Some industry-leading poker rooms hate rakeback, others – mostly the ones which are fiercely competitive despite their size – still promote it. The Full Tilt Poker rakeback is a nice example in this sense.
Prop Deals
Some poker rooms (especially the newly created ones) are so desperate for player liquidity, they’ll offer rakeback deals which exceed 100%. What that basically means to you is that you’ll be paid to play at their tables. This much goodness though comes at a price: certain restrictions apply to prop players although none tie regular rakeback players. Still, most poker prop deals have the power to turn a losing player into a winner and thus to give an otherwise hopeless rookie’s career a more than welcome boost.
